"OK, so Sushisamba is not strictly Japanese but rather a fusion, mixing with south American flavours and excellent cuts of meat. It remains one of our most booked restaurants and since opening it has been a mainstay of the London restaurant scene. You pay a premium for the views of the London skyline, but the quality of the sushi is very, very good, and the stuff they do in the grill is great."

"This modern Chinese restaurant on Broadwick Street, slickly designed and eagerly staffed, is a great option for all-day dim sum year round, and their seven-dish Chinese New Year menu (on ’til March 4) is pretty special. The sesame balls filled with a salted egg-yolk custard are a real treat, the braised pork is ludicrously tender and melty, and the golden fortune prawns are mouthwatering too. The cocktails we tried were just the ticket to sharpen the senses (the Black River Martini is a punchy, purple Scotch + blackberry delight) and although I wasn’t wholly sold on the admittedly very pretty petit gateau that concluded the meal, my companion eagerly demolished both of ours, so what do I know?"

"The London outpost of Chinese fine dining group Imperial Treasure, which has locations in Shanghai, Incheon, Guangzhou, Singapore, Hong Kong and Paris, is housed in an impressively renovated former bank in St James and offers refined Cantonese classics, which more than stand up to their surroundings. While the menu includes a fine array of dim sum, Char Sui and more unusual dishes (chicken’s feet, sea cucumber and fish maw all make an appearance), the signature here is the Beijing-style roasted duck – a sophisticated take on your local takeaway’s crispy aromatic version that has been steamed, dried, seasoned, hung and then roasted to turn it a deep orange hue with skin so crispy it shatters like glass. Yes, it costs £100 and has to be ordered in advance but, trust us, it’s worth it."

"With outposts in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Guangzhou, Incheon and Paris, the super-luxe, Michelin-starred Imperial Treasure already had quite the reputation before landing in St James’s in early 2019. Admittedly, it got off to a slightly rocky start (earlier reviewers were horrified to learn that the £100 duck only consisted of one course), but such wrongs have been duly righted. Now, the ultra-delicious Beijing bird is served first with pancakes – sliced, as is tradition, table-side – and then in a choice of tasty sources (GQ suggests the ginger and spring onion), making the price rather reasonable."
