Burnt butter caramel ice cream pies and loaded tiramisu sundaes join this mouthwatering brownie cookie ice cream sando (from £5.45) that can be customised with the likes of black sesame ice cream, molten chocolate, bee pollen honeycomb and whatever else takes your fancy. Now that's our kinda sandwich."

Set up by Aussie duo Julian Porter and Lauren Johns, Milk first opened back in 2012 as M1LK, but in 2015 it underwent a refurbishment, re-opening without the numeral as Milk. First thing’s first: you will have to queue on weekends, as the Balham brunchers are out in force – but hold out, because the food really is top-notch."

Milk’s weekend pancake selection changes, well, weekly, but recent iterations include rum-and-raisin with boozy medjool date cream, and a buckwheat stack that appeared to have had a lemon meringue pie dropped on top of it.
